We will cover all the possible reasons why the trigger may not work and how to solve each issue step by step 🙂

Bissell ProHeat 2x Revolution Trigger Not Working – Why and How To Fix It

The trigger on your Bissell ProHeat 2x Revolution may not work due to one or more of the following reasons:

  • A foreign object is stuck in the handle or the trigger mechanism
  • The handle or the trigger is broken or damaged
  • The spray tips are clogged or dirty
  • The water tank is not assembled correctly or has a leak
  • The formula tank is empty or not inserted properly
  • The x-valve or the inline filter is blocked or faulty
  • The pump belt is broken or loose

To fix the trigger problem, you need to check and clean each of these parts and replace them if necessary.

You can follow the steps below to do this yourself or watch this video for a visual guide.

If none of the steps help, you may need to check if your carpet cleaner is still under warranty and contact Bissell for further support.

Step 1: Check for Foreign Objects in the Handle or the Trigger

The first thing you need to do is to turn off and unplug your carpet cleaner.

Then, remove the water tank and the formula tank and set them aside.

Next, inspect the handle and the trigger for any foreign objects that may be stuck or jammed inside.

You can use a flashlight to see better inside the handle. If you find anything, use a pair of tweezers or a small screwdriver to carefully remove it.

You can also try to press and release the trigger several times to see if it loosens up. If the trigger still does not work, move on to the next step.

Step 2: Check for Damage in the Handle or the Trigger

If there are no foreign objects in the handle or the trigger, you need to check if they are broken or damaged.

To do this, you need to remove the handle from the machine.

  1. First, unscrew and remove the accessory hose door from the back of the machine
  2. Then, unscrew and remove the two screws that hold the handle in place.
  3. Pull out the handle gently and disconnect it from the hose.
  4. Now, inspect the handle and the trigger for any cracks, breaks, or signs of wear and tear.

If you see any damage, you need to replace them with new parts.

You can order them from Bissell’s website or contact their customer service for help.

To reassemble the handle, follow these steps in reverse order.

Step 3: Check and Clean the Spray Tips

Another possible reason why the trigger may not work is that the spray tips are clogged or dirty.

The spray tips are located at the bottom of the machine, near where the brushes are.

To check and clean them:

  1. Turn off and unplug your carpet cleaner
  2. Remove both tanks and set them aside
  3. Next, unscrew and remove the front nozzle from the machine and set it aside
  4. Now, look at the bottom of your machine and locate two red spray tips. They should be pointing downwards towards your floor. If they are not, use your fingers to adjust them until they are.
  5. Next, use a pin or a paper clip to poke through each spray tip and clear any debris that may be blocking them. You can also use a damp cloth to wipe them clean.

To reattach the front nozzle, align it with the base of your machine and snap it into place.

Make sure it is secure before moving on to the next step.

Step 4: Check and Fill the Water Tank

The water tank on your Bissell ProHeat 2x Revolution may not be assembled correctly or may have a leak that prevents water from reaching the spray tips.

To check and fill the water tank, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off and unplug your carpet cleaner.
  2. Remove both tanks and set them aside.
  3. Inspect the water tank for any cracks or holes and replace it if needed.
  4. Make sure the rubber plug on the water tank is pressed in place. Press firmly on all edges to secure it.
  5. Fill the water tank with hot tap water up to the fill line. Do not use boiling water or microwave the water as this may damage the tank.
  6. Add any Bissell 2x formula to the water tank. For antibacterial cleaning, use Bissell Deep Clean plus antibacterial formula and fill it to the easy fill formula line. For all other formulas, add 2.5 ounces to the tank.
  7. Replace the cap and twist it to secure it.
  8. Tilt the tank towards you and insert the bottom first. Then, tilt the top of the tank towards the machine and push until it clicks into place.

Step 5: Check and Insert the Formula Tank

The formula tank on your Bissell ProHeat 2x Revolution may be empty or not inserted properly, which may prevent the formula from mixing with the water and spraying out.

To check and insert the formula tank, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off and unplug your carpet cleaner.
  2. Remove both tanks and set them aside.
  3. Check the formula level in the formula tank. If it is empty, refill it with Bissell 2x formula of your choice. Do not dilute the formula with water as this may affect its performance.
  4. Make sure the autoload gaskets on the bottom of the formula tank are not stuck or missing. These are two small rubber pieces that help seal
the tank to the machine. If they are missing or damaged, you need to replace them with new ones.
  5. Insert the formula tank into the slot on the back of the machine. Push it down until it locks into place.

Step 6: Check and Clean the X-Valve and the Inline Filter

The x-valve and the inline filter are two parts that control the water flow from the tanks to the spray tips.

They may be blocked or faulty, which may prevent water from spraying out. To check and clean them, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off and unplug your carpet cleaner.
  2. Remove both tanks and set them aside.
  3. Locate the x-valve on the bottom of the water tank. It is a white plastic piece that looks like an X. Press on it with your finger to see if it moves freely. If it does not, you need to replace it with a new one.
  4. Locate the inline filter on the side of the machine, near where you insert
the formula tank. It is a clear plastic tube with a red cap. Unscrew
the cap and pull out the filter.
  5. Rinse the filter under running water and gently tap it on a hard surface to remove any debris. Do not use any tools or brushes to clean
the filter as this may damage it.
  6. Replace the filter and screw on the cap securely.

Step 7: Check and Replace the Pump Belt

The pump belt is a rubber band that connects the motor to the pump that sprays water.

It may be broken or loose, which may prevent water from spraying out.

To check and replace the pump belt, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off and unplug your carpet cleaner.
  2. Remove both tanks and set them aside.
  3. Remove the front nozzle from the machine and set it aside.
  4. Turn the machine on its side, making sure the cord side is down.
  5. Remove the clear end cap by unscrewing the two black screws, taking extra care to not drop the screws into the unit.
  6. Remove one silver screw, and remove the pivot arm by gently lifting up on the arm.
  7. At this point, you have access to the pump belt, which is on the non-cord side of the machine and hooks over the metal motor pulley.
  8. Check if the pump belt is intact and tight.

If it is broken or loose, you need to replace it with a new one.

You can order one from Bissell’s website or contact their customer service for help.

To replace the pump belt, loop one end over the metal motor pulley and stretch the other end over the plastic pump pulley.

To reassemble the machine, follow these steps in reverse order.
